According to a study from the Journal of Clinical Sleep, it was found that consuming more saturated fat, more sugar and less fiber could be associated with lighter, less restorative, and more disrupted sleep. Those who had the proper amount of fiber had a greater amount of time spent in the stage of deep, slow-wave sleep. In contrast, those who had nutrition with higher amounts of saturated fat had less time in slow-wave sleep. Sugar intake was associated with more periods of waking from sleep throughout the night. The greater the sugar intake the more times the study participants woke up.
